VAIDEN — Services for Archie James Phillips, 43, of Vaiden, who died of head trauma received in an all terrain vehicle accident Sunday, May 28, 2000 on Emory Road in Holmes County, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Mr Phillips was a laborer and a member of the Haven Methodist Church in Vaiden.

He is survived by his two sons, Lajuan Washington of Seattle and Marcus McDonald of Chicago; a mother and stepfather, Lucy and Jiles Edwards of Winona; five brothers, Charles L. Phillips of Jackson, Arthur L. Phillips of Kilmichael, Coleman Phillips of Vaiden, Kenneth Phillips, of Wartrace, Tenn., and Eddie B. Forrest of Winona; six sisters, Mary Stovall and Marilyn Hankins, both of Gulfport, Lovie Phillips and Edith Cleveland, both of Chicago, Hattie Gregory of Aurora, Ill., and Sherry Harvey of Country Club Hills, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

The Rev. James Ross will officiate at the services. Burial will be at Vaiden Community Cemetery.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for James L. "Sonny" Meeks, 61, of Vaiden, who died from injuries received in a one vehicle accident Friday, June 30, 2000, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts and Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Mr. Meeks was a retired farmer and railroad laborer. He was also a member of Irving Wragg Masonic Lodge Number 34 in West.

He was deacon and finance chairman at the Oklahoma Church of God in Christ in Carroll County. He was also the church's assistant Sunday school superintendent and trustee.

He is survived by his wife, Minnie Meeks of Vaiden, four sons, Robert Meeks and James Meeks, both of Forrest, Curtis Meeks and Elder Vernon Meeks, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two daughters, Janet Meeks and Pat Nathan, both of Fort Wayne, Ind.; two brothers, Robert Meeks of Jackson and Franklin Green of Black Hawk; two sisters, Jimmy Ola Jones of Black Hawk and Emily Adams of Greenwood; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Elders Vernon Meeks and Alexander Reese will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Mount Nebo Cemetery near Black Hawk.

Visitation was to be from 2 to 6 this afternoon at the funeral home.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Martha Pinkston Milner, 70, of Vaiden, who died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Grenada Lake Medical Center will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Vaiden Baptist Church.

Mrs. Milner was a physician assistant at Vaiden Medical Clinic. She was a member of the Vaiden Baptist Church and served as assistant church treasurer.

She is survived by her husband, Henry S. Milner of Vaiden; a daughter, Dianne Milner Barnett of Jackson; her mother, Eva Gober Pinkston of Winona; a sister, Sara Pinkston Williams of Chickasaw, Ala.; a brother, James Pinkston of Birmingham, Ala.; and one grandson.
The Rev. Earl Ezell and the Rev. Leon Holly will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery.

Services for Sarah Earnestine Randle, 83, of Greenwood, who died of cancer Tuesday, July 4, 2000, at Greenwood Health and Rehabilitation Center, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at St. John's United Methodist Church.

Miss Randle was a retired bookkeeper with the F.W. Woolworth Co. in Jackson, where she worked for 38 years until her retirement in the early 1970s. She was a native of Vaiden. She was a graduate of Vaiden High School and Holmes Junior College. She moved to Greenwood after she retired and became an active member of St. John's United Methodist Church. She was active in the Nelson-Taylor and Wallace Sunday School classes. She was active in the Women of the Church and served as communion steward for many years.

She is survived by three brothers, Frank Randle and Grider Randle, both of Greenwood, and Dale Randle of West Point; and many nieces and nephews.

The Rev. Robert Gill will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery

Pallbearers will be nephews and friends of Mrs. Randle.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 tonight at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.

Services for Mary Helen Woods, 84, of Vaiden, who died of congestive heart failure Saturday, July 8, 2000, at her son's home in Gary, Ind., will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Mrs. Woods was a homemaker and a member of Aacona Baptist Church near Vaiden. She was a native of Carroll County.

She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. Woods. She is survived by five sons, C.J. Woods, Bobby G. Woods, Eddie James Woods and Ressie Woods, all of Gary, and Mal Woods of Memphis; three daughters, Annie B. Griffin of West, Annie Ruth Johnson of Vaiden and Louise Morris of Gary; mother, Hattie K. Lockhart of Vaiden; two sisters, Mary McKinney of Chicago Heights, Ill., and Flora Lee Demmings of Memphis; one brother, Jessie Elder of Vaiden; 56 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Elder Charles Washington will officiate at the services.
Burial will be in Aacona Cemetery near Vaiden.

 

 

 

Services for Jerry Wayne Hughes, Sr., 52, of Vaiden, who died of cancer Friday, July 14, 2000, at his residence, will be at 4:00 p.m. Saturday at Williams & Lord Chapel in Greenwood.

He was born in Greenwood and was a lifelong resident. He had lived in Vaiden since 1998. He worked for Thompson Machinery for 31 years as a welder. He played in the "Wintergreen" band for 25 years.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Hughes Jr. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Bowers Hughes of Vaiden; one son, Rodney Hughes of Greenwood; one daughter, Melissa Moffett of Kosciusko; one stepdaughter, Cecelia Tucker of Vaiden; two sisters, Marilyn Turner of Jackson and Debbie Hall of Greenwood; his mother, Winnie Seary of Greenwood; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Williams, Billy Womble, Paul Melton, Frank Montgomery, Benny Barrentina, Michael Boles, David Browning, and Woodrow "Woody" Thomas. Dr. Ed Rafique will be the Honorary pallbearer.

Rev. Joseph Sansing will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in Longview Cemetery in Carroll County.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Charles E. Melton, 89, of Vaiden, who died of kidney failure Monday, July, 24, 2000, at Montfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, were to be at 2 p.m. today at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Mr. Melton was a retired employee of the Mississippi Forestry Commission. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Midway United Methodist Church in Vaiden.

His wife, Lorene Noah Melton, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Melton Leach of Vaiden and two grandchildren.

The Rev. Jimmy Latham was to have officiated at the services. Burial was to be in Old Salem Cemetery near Vaiden.

Pallbearers were to be Ben Cauthen, Terry Cauthen, Dale Lee, Ralph Self, Charles Ellis and Greg Kelly.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Jeff Greer, 49, of Vaiden, who died of injuries from a worksite accident Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, near Winona, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Mr. Greer was employed as a construction laborer for J.J. Ferguson Sand & Gravel Co. of Greenwood.

He is survived by a daughter, Linda Harrell of Winona; two brothers, Jim Greer of Tupelo and Sam Greer Jr. of Vaiden; and two sisters, Ersie Foreman of Carrollton and Mattie Skinner of Memphis.

The Rev. Johnny Butts will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Vaiden Community Cemetery.

Visitation will be from noon until 6 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.

 

 

 

EUPORA - Services for the Rev. Earl Ezell, 65, of Eupora, who died of heart failure Friday, Aug. 4, 2000, at Webster Health Services, were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Oliver Funeral Home in Eupora.

Ezell graduated from Greenwood High School in 1952 and completed a bachelor's degree at Mississippi College in 1956. He graduated from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1961.

He was ordained and licensed by Calvary Baptist Church in Greenwood in 1952. He served Mount Vernon Baptist Church in West from 1952 to 1961, Vaiden Baptist Church from 1961 to 1963, Second Baptist Church in Kosciusko from 1963 to 1968, Meadowood Baptist Church in Amory from 1968 to 1982, Southside Baptist Church in Greenville from 1982 to 1996 and Sapa Baptist Church in Eupora from 1997 until his death.
He served on various associational committees in Holmes, Attala, Monroe and Washington counties. He was president of the Pastors Conference in Monroe and Washington counties and vice president of the Mississippi Delta Pastors Conference. He served on the Associational Building Committee for the new missions building in Washington County.

He served on the convention board in the Monroe Association for six years and on the Washington Association's convention board for six years. He also served on the following committees: executive, new church expansion, assemblies, grounds and budget.

He is survived by his wife, Zenobia Shurden Ezell of Eupora; two daughters, Melanie Flippo of Amory and Gwenda Sanderson of Augusta, Ga.; his mother, Grace Causey Ezell of Eupora; one brother, Willie Wayland "Sonny" Ezell of Carrollton; and three grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Revs. Cornell Daughtry and Bernett Fielder officiated at the services.

Burial was in Sapa Cemetery in Webster County.

Pallbearers were Doyle Cummings, James Bryant, Gene Foshee, Harvie Jackson, J.B. Rowe, Bill Stewart, Ken Strickland and Willie Weddle. Friends served as honorary pallbearers.

VAIDEN - Services for Willie Mae Phillips, 80, of Vaiden, who died of complications from a heart attack Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Haven Methodist Church.

Mrs. Phillips was a native of Winston County. She was retired, having worked as a cook at Hathorn Elementary School in Vaiden. She was a member and former secretary at Haven Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Archie G. "Pop" Williams. She is survived by one son, Charles A. Phillips of Markham, Ill.; two daughters, Carolyn Gray of Chicago and Janie Paul of Forrest Park, Ill.; two brothers, Sylvator Sims of Waukegan, Ill., and Tillman Sims of Gary, Ind.; two sisters, Nellie Sims of Waukegan and Azzie Ree Brown of Louisville; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The Rev. James Ross will officiate at the services.

Burial will be in Vaiden Community Cemetery. Roberts & Sons Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

 

 

 

VAIDEN -- Services for Eliza Williams, 67, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Thursday, Sept. 21, 2000, at her residence in Vaiden, will be at 2 p.m. today at Sanders & Sanders Funeral Home in Winona.
Miss Williams was a member of Midway United Methodist Church.

She is survived by one daughter, Clarissa Lockhart of Vaiden; eight sons, James Williams, Lee Dell Williams and Junior Campbell all of Vaiden, L. A. Williams of Delta, La., Lewis Williams of Vicksburg, Charles Williams and Robert Williams both of Lansing Mich. and Willie Williams of Memphis; four brothers, Clemon Tidwell Jr., Ressie Tidwell and Walter Tidwell, all of Vaiden ,and Henry Tidwell of Delta, La.; five sisters, Ruthie Mae Pointer, Abbie Ward, Lola Burkhead, Classie Tidwell and Lubertha Williams, all of Vaiden; 27 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Barbara Lott will officiate at the services.

Visitation was Saturday from 11 until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery in Vaiden.

 

 

 

VAIDEN -- Services for Celia Mae Jones, 64, of Vaiden, who died of complications from respiratory failure Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Ms. Jones retired from Rosa Lee's Department Store, where she worked as a clerk in East Chicago. She was a member of Vaiden Hill Baptist Church. She is native of Carroll County and a former resident of East Chicago.

She is survived by three brothers, Jessie "Bud" Jones Jr. of Vaiden, Eddie "Buddy" Jones of East Chicago and Howard Jones of Calumet City, Ill.; five sisters, Vera Sangster, and Annie Dale Williams both of Vaiden, Anna Burnley of Raymond, Maxine Woods of Gary and Marilyn Fulton of Jackson.

Burial will be Everett Cemetery in Carroll County.

The Rev. Leroy Smith will officiate at the services.

Visitation will be Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

 

 

 

DREW -- Services for Robert "Bob" Self, 80, of Drew, who died of heart failure Sunday, Oct. 17, 2000, at Walter B. Crook Nursing Facility in Ruleville, will be at 11 a.m. today at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Mr. Self was a retired Mississippi State Highway Department employee. He was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church near Vaiden.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Doster Self of Drew; three daughters, Shirley James and Betty Gorrell, both of Drew, and Joyce Tate of Keller, Texas; three sons, Don Self of Cleveland, Miss., Morris Self of Kilmichael and Mike Self of Grenada; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

The Rev. James McNally will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery.

Visitation was from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Walter A. McGlothin Jr., 67, of Vaiden, who died of complications from cancer Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, at his home, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary in Winona.

Mr. McGlothin was a retired mechanic and auto body repairman. He had worked for Dotson Motor Co. in Winona and U.S. Cattle Co. in Vaiden.
He was a member and deacon at Tuckerville Baptist Church near Vaiden.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Mae McGlothin of Vaiden; four sons, Larry McGlothin of Baton Rouge, La., Walter James McGlothin of Corona, Calif., Ronnie McGlothin of Schenectady, N.Y. and Robert Howard Gaines of Winona; two daughters, Betty McGlothin of Hyde Park, Mass., and Elaine McGlothin of Dorchester, Mass.; one brother, James McGlothin of Milwaukee; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held until 6 p.m. today at the mortuary.

Burial will be in Tuckerville Cemetery near Vaiden.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Roy McGee Jr., 39, of Vaiden, who died of cancer Thursday, Oct. 26, 2000, at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vaiden Baptist Church.

Mr. McGee was the owner and operator of Vaiden Grocery. He was a member of the Vaiden Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Beth Laird McGee of Vaiden; a daughter, Corie McGee of Vaiden; three sons, R.C. McGee, Michael McGee and Luke McGee, all of Vaiden; his parents, Roy McGee Sr. and Annie L. McGee of Vaiden; three sisters, Patricia Pugh of Powder Springs, Ga., Diana M. Stubbs of Birmingham, Ala. and Cynthia Hester of Wesson.

The Rev. Leon Holly will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Bethesda Cemetery in Holmes County.

Visitation will be from 5 to 9 tonight at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

WINONA - Services for Dorothy Naomi Pinkston, 75, of Vaiden, who died of cancer Saturday, Nov. 11, 2000, at her home, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Mrs. Pinkston was a homemaker and a member of First United Pentecostal Church of Winona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F. Green Pinkston. She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Goldsmith of Wisconsin and Renee Fowler of Vaiden; two sisters, Vira Sue Phillips of Weatherford, Texas, and Karen Faith Greer of Wichita, Kans.; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. Victor Taylor will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Enon Cemetery in Vaiden.

 

 

 

VAIDEN -- Services for LaDerrick Moore, 17, of Vaiden, who died of a gunshot wound Monday, Nov. 20, 2000, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital in Winona, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Roberts & Sons Mortuary.

He is survived by his mother and father, Frances and Lynn Gomiller of Vaiden; three brothers, Christopher Moore of Fort Worth, Texas, Dwayne Moore and Jabari Gomiller, both of Vaiden; two sisters, Latesha Moore and Keila Moore, both of Vaiden; one stepsister, Katrina Gomiller of Winona; two grandmothers, Mary Frances Moore of Winona and grandmother, Jessie Mae Williams of Vaiden; and a great-grandmother, Mary Ann Moore of Winona.

The Rev. Shelmon Parker will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Prospect Cemetery near Winona.

Visitation will be 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Vera Lou Weeks, 61, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Vaiden Baptist Church.

Mrs. Weeks was a homemaker. She was a member of the Poplar Creek Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffery Guy Weeks.

She is survived by her husband, Guy Weeks of Vaiden; two daughters, Becky Pierce and Faye Phillips, both of Vaiden; a son, Jimmy Weeks of Vaiden; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. Leon Holly will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Vaiden Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.

 

 

 

WINONA -- Services for Willie James Coker, 64, of Vaiden, who died of congestive heart failure Sunday, Dec. 10, 2000, at University Hospital in Jackson, will be at noon Saturday at Roberts & Sons Mortuary.

Mr. Coker was a retired laborer with Illinois Central Railroad.

He is survived by his wife, Mary R. Coker of Vaiden; two sons, Willie Coker of Greenwood and James Coker of Lexington; six daughters, Joan Coker of Detroit, Theresa Lockhart of Vaiden, Beverly Coker of Winona, Nancy Coker of San Diego, Calif., Carol McGee and Lorraine Coker, both of Memphis; two brothers, Booker T. Coker of Vaiden and Walter Coker of Vaiden; two sisters, Annie Lois Coker of Vaiden and Eloise Gary of St. Louis, Mo.; 19 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be noon until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Vaiden.

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Alice B. Washington, 64, of Vaiden, who died of renal failure Saturday, Dec. 16, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Sanders & Sanders Funeral Home in Winona.

Mrs. Washington was a retired sampler roller at the Greenwood Compress. She was a member of Hazel Green Missionary Baptist Church in Winona.

She is survived by one son, Willie Dunson of Fort Dodge, Iowa; one sister, Lennie Anderson of Ferndale, Mich.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

The Rev. J.B. Brown will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Hogue Cemetery in Carroll County.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for William Ward, 56, of Vaiden, who died of a heart attack Tuesday, Dec. 26, 2000, in Vaiden, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Summerfield Missionary Baptist Church.

Mr. Ward was a laborer and a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Vaiden.

He is survived by one son, Tony James of Vaiden; mother, Mrs. Jeffie Ward of Vaiden; 10 brothers, Walter Ward, Willie Ward, Abraham Ward, Wesley Ward, Charles Ward, Davis Ward, Tanner Ward Jr. and James Ward, all of Vaiden, Curley Ward of Winona and Sylvester Ward of North Carolina; two sisters, Mary Weeks and Lubertha Green, both of Vaiden; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Sanders & Sanders Funeral Home in Winona.

Burial will be in the church cemetery.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Earlean Rogers, 82, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona, will be at noon Saturday at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Vaiden.

Mrs. Rogers was a retired educator and a graduate of Mississippi Valley State University. She had served as secretary of the Baptist Zion District Congress Training Union and treasurer of the Zion District Ushers Association. She was president of the usher board from 1953 to 1996. She was a member of Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

She is survived by her brother, George Lofton of Vaiden.

The Rev. Jessie Sawyer will officiate at the services. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Sanders & Sanders Funeral Home of Winona is in charge of arrangements.

Visitation will be until 6 this evening at the funeral home.

VAIDEN -- Services for Rachel Alice Carter King, 88, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona, were held today at 10 a.m. at Oliver Funeral Home.

Mrs. King was a homemaker and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church in Carroll County.

She was preceded in death by a son, Curtis A. King.

She is survived by her husband, William Monroe King of Vaiden; three daughters, Mary Luther of Crenshaw, Ernestine Holt of Pearl and Ann Blaylock of Vaiden; three sons, Ronald "Tootsie" King of Vaiden, Bill Leamond of Pearl and Frank Leamond of Vaiden; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Rev. Doug Warren officiated at the services, and the Rev. Victor Taylor assisted. Pallbearers were Harold King, Mike Oliver, Billy King, Tommy Noah, Wayne Henson and Junior Cuomo.

Burial was in Michie Cemetery near Vaiden.

 

 

 

VAIDEN - Services for Claude G. Cox, 100, of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at Tyler Holmes Hospital in Winona, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Shongalo Presbyterian Church in Vaiden.

Mr. Cox was a farmer and an elder at Shongalo Presbyterian Church. He also drove a school wagon and a school bus.

His daughter-in-law, Alice Cox of Vaiden, remembered that she was one of the students Mr. Cox transported in a camper-style bus, starting in 1944. He drove that type of bus and a regular yellow school bus until 1970, when he retired.

However, Mr. Cox was 16 when started driving a school wagon from Elliott to Blackmonton about three years, starting in 1916.
The school wagon was drawn by two mules, Molly and Jack, Mrs. Cox said.

Mr. Cox turned 100 on Nov. 6, 2000. The family celebrated with a party at the church. More than 200 people came to wish him well, Mrs. Cox said.

Mr. Cox is survived by one son, Roscoe Wilson Cox of Vaiden.

Mr. Owens was a laborer.

WINONA - Graveside services for Beatrice Bell Prewitt, 90, of Winona, who died of heart failure Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2001, at her residence, were at 10:30 a.m. today, at Stonewall Cemetery near Ethel.

Mrs. Prewitt was a retired school teacher for Vaiden Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Winona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, F.D. Prewitt.

She is survived by two sons, Frank Prewitt Jr. of Tullulah, La., and Wiley Prewitt of Winona; one sister, Sara McCool of Kosciusko; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

VAIDEN - Services for Albert Patrick Cuomo, 81, of Vaiden, who died of kidney failure Saturday, March 10, 2001, at Monfort Jones Memorial Hospital in Kosciusko, were held at 2 p.m. today at Oliver Funeral Home in Winona.

Mr. Cuomo was a retired employee of J.A. Olson Co. and a member of Shiloh Baptist Church. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he also was a former member of Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Lula Mae Cuomo of Vaiden; six daughters, Patsy Moore of Louisville, Barbara Ivy of Stewart, Brenda King, Mary Jane King and Diane King, all of Vaiden and Virginia Hutchison of Newport; one son, Albert P. Cuomo Jr. of Vaiden; 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday.

VAIDEN - Services for James E. Ramage, 82, of Cleveland, Tenn., formerly of Vaiden, who died of cancer Tuesday, April 10, 2001, at his home, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Midway Cemetery near Vaiden.

Mr. Ramage was a retired civil service employee. He also was a member of the American Legion and a World War II veteran.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Doster Ramage. He is survived by three daughters, Yvonne Smith, Debra Pittman and Christy Moore, all of Jackson; five sons, James T. Ramage, Billy D. Ramage, Keith Ramage and Marvin L. Ramage, all of Cleveland, Tenn., and Dennis C. Ramage of Florence; one brother, Levi Ramage of Pembroke, Ga.; 30 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Bailey was a retired mechanic.

Mr. Davis was a lineman for Irby Construction Co. of Jackson. He was a member of the Mississippi Association for the Deaf and Gulf Coast Association for the Deaf. He was a Southern Baptist.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Stewart Davis. He is survived by one daughter, Alice Argo of Douglasville, Ga.; one son, Joe Davis of Biloxi; one brother, Walter Davis of Grenada; and three grandchildren.

Mrs. Elsten was a retired homemaker and a member of Vaiden Baptist Church. She was a former resident of Hot Springs, Ark.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Elsten; a daughter, Lois Rapp; and a son, Donald Rapp.

She is survived by two daughters, Louise Young of Hot Springs and Geneva Cox of Vaiden; one son, James Rapp of Beeville, Texas; 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Thomas was a retired postal inspector.

He is survived by his wife, Mary D. Thomas of Winona; a daughter, Felicia Thomas of Starkville; a sister, Patricia Thomas of West Point; and one grandchild.

VAIDEN - Memorial services for Warren "Jim" Griffin, 71, of Vaiden, who died of cancer Monday, Dec. 24, 2001, at his residence, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Oliver Funeral Home of Winona.

Mr. Griffin was a retired high school teacher who taught in schools in Michigan, New York and Massachusetts. A native of Bedford, Mass., he was a graduate of Fairhaven High School.

He was a member of the 1946 All Bristol County Football Team. In 1947, he was the recipient of the Sparrow Cup. He was inducted into the Fairhaven High School Hall of Fame in June 2000. He was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, where he played on the 1953-1954 state championship football team.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War. His family said he enjoyed fishing and the great outdoors.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Griffin of Vaiden; a daughter, Nancy Kibe of Beacon, N.Y.; a stepdaughter, Jan Maddox of Vaiden; three sons, Brian Griffin of Pawling, N.Y., William Griffin of Wareham, Mass., and James Griffin of Highland, N.Y.; a sister, Shirley Perry of Fall River, Mass.; by the mother of his children, Grace Gleason of Lagrangeville, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Graveside services for Michael Allen "Mike" Welch, 52, of Greenwood, who died of heart failure at his place of employment, Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, were at 11 a.m. today at Vaiden Cemetery.

Mr. Welch was an agent with Greyhound Bus Lines, 325 Main St., in Greenwood.

A native of Shelby, he was a graduate of Leland High School. He graduated of Mississippi Delta Junior College and Delta State University.

Mr. Welch was a member and past president of the Leflore County Country Club and was an avid golfer. He lived in Rosedale prior to moving to Greenwood. He was a Baptist.

He is survived by his wife, Brenda Ray Welch of Greenwood; two daughters, Elizabeth Welch of Starkville, and Ashley Welch of Cleveland; a stepdaughter, Jennifer Neill of Memphis; and a brother, George Moodey of Greenwood.

The Rev. Lanny Haley officiated at the services.

Pallbearers were Wayne Banks, Bob Overstreet, Joe Floyd, John Oden, Stanley "Sugar" Mullins and Dick Karrer.

Miss Ingram graduated from the University of Alabama. She was retired from the National Labor Relations Board in Washington after more than 40 years of service. She also worked for 10 years as deputy, circuit and chancery clerk in Carroll County and also had taught at Nation's School in Montgomery County. She was a Baptist.

She is survived by four daughters, Nell Fielder of Winona, Mary Lynn Welch of Vaiden, Polly Welch of Greenville and Lillian Hunsinger of Birmingham, Ala.; three sons, James Alford and Jerry Alford, both of Vaiden, and Walter Alford of Jackson; 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 tonight at the funeral home.

VAIDEN - Services for Margaret G. Anderson, 89, of Jackson, formerly of Vaiden, who died of heart failure Thursday, March 21, 2002, at Lakeland Health Care Center in Jackson, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Shongalo Presbyterian Church in Vaiden.

Mrs. Anderson was a retired retail merchant, a former insurance agent and a former teacher. She was a graduate of Belhaven College. She was a member of Shongalo Presbyterian Church. She was also a member of Order of Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon F. Anderson.
She is survived by two sisters, Marion G. Griffin of Vaiden and Gertrude G. Coleman of Starkville.

Mrs. Nunn was a homemaker. She was also a member of Vaiden United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Billie C. Nunn.
She is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth N. Yates of Vaiden and Wyvonne N. Burden of Greenwood; one son, Wayne Nunn of Senatobia; two sisters, Velma H. Mrs. Hancock was a retired inspector for Atkins Saws in Greenville. She was a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, James D. Cook and Warren H. Hancock.

She is survived by five sisters, Lorine Branch of Gulf Breeze, Fla., Florine Williams of Gulfport, Martha Clarke and Mildred Branch, both of Winona, and Mae Chiappino of Vaiden, and three brothers, Vernon "Buddy" Welch and Dennis Welch, both of Vaiden, and Dewitt Welch of Greenville.

Burial was in Providence Cemetery near Carmack.

Mrs. Rhine was a retired licensed practical nurse. She attended Vaiden Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Alf [Trotter] Collins and Roy [Julius] Rhine.

She is survived by a son, Ronnie Lee Collins of Florence; two stepdaughters, Martha Holly of Pine Bluff, Ark., and Reba Sue Carwile of Winona; two grandsons: Sean Eric Collins, 6, of Braxton, MS, and Cody Ryan Collins, 9, also of Braxton, MS; 12 stepgrandchildren and 21 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda Gibson Welch of Senatobia; a stepson, Don Gibson of Senatobia; father, Harvey "Blackie" Welch of Vaiden; a sister, Sandra Orr of Winona; and two brothers, Cleveland Welch of Vaiden and Jeffery Welch of Grenada.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Vera C. Weeks, and a son, Jeff Weeks.
